KHAFRA's projects for the Community Development sector include:

Providing civil site grading and drainage, road widening improvement, and utility design for a project, which was later awarded the prestigious Birmingham Beautification Award.

Civil, mechanical and electrical engineering services for a 14,000 square foot recreation center. The facility was built as part of a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).

Architectural and engineering services to convert an existing building shell into a first-class community center.
- Roadway improvements to deliver much needed access paths and road dividers in a busy community area. This project included adding turning lanes, widening streets, and providing utilities and sidewalk access to roads.
- Total engineering services for the design of a new 10,000 square foot community center. Services included structural, mechanical, electrical and civil site design for the replacement of the existing facility with a new gymnasium, administration building and recreation center wing.
- Complete renovation and restoration of a historic railroad depot. The design included structural renovations and new mechanical and electrical systems.
- Master plans, drainage studies and solutions for several city parks.
- Road design-related improvements, including landscaping, re-pavement, and utility pathway modification.
- State-of-the-art electrical design for an expansive streetscape project along 7th Avenue in downtown Birmingham’s prime business district.
- A complete master plan for a residential development consisting of single-family homes on a 40-acre tract of city-owned property.
- Designing a 5,300 square-foot senior citizen center, which included an exercise area, dining room, kitchen, computer-enabled meeting room, administrative offices, and a covered patio.
