Storm Water Projects

Anything dropped into the gutter or on the ground is capable of creating stormwater pollution. Polluted stormwater runoff manifests itself in the form of water quality problems, by creating threats to human health and causing havoc to the ecosystems and the natural environment. KHAFRA is experienced in the design and execution of various types of stormwater projects.

FULTON COUNTY COMPREHENSIVE STORMWATER QUALITY MONITORING
Fulton County, GA

KHAFRA has overseen the Fulton County Comprehensive Stormwater Management Program since 1994. Initially this program involved the construction and maintenance of three permanent stormwater monitoring stations, and wet weather sampling, required by the NPDES permit for Fulton County.

The program was expanded to include KHAFRA's development of a comprehensive county-wide stormwater quality-monitoring program. The program included monitoring station maintenance, wet weather sampling, dry weather outfall screening and pollutant loading estimates.

The main program objectives were the assessment of stormwater management, and collection of water quality data from various County land use areas

POND CREEK WATERSHED MANAGEMENT PROGRAM
Louisville, KY

One of the largest watersheds in the Louisville and Jefferson County Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) service area, the Pond Creek Watershed stretches from Fern Creek (Bardstown Road) at the east to the Salt River and Southwest Jefferson County to the west.  At the north is the industrial area that surrounds Louisville International Airport, and to the south its tributaries can be traced into new residential neighborhoods in Bullitt County.

For a contract term of 5 years, KHAFRA Engineering, in association with Fuller, Mossbarger, Scott and May Engineers, Inc. (FMSM) was the management consultant for Watershed Management of an 88 square mile area known as the Pond Creek Watershed in Louisville, Kentucky.

KHAFRA has a role in each of the nine programs, which comprise the total project. The programs included: Capital Projects Program, Watershed Restoration Program, Neighborhood Program Coordination, Easement, County-wide Property Service Connections, Area-wide Inspection Services, Program Management, Floodplain Management, Infrastructure Design.
